Dhaka: Two Bangladeshi judges were killed on Monday when a man threw a bomb at their car.
According to the police officer, the judges were on their way to the Jhalakathi district court, 250 km south of Dhaka, when the attack took place, a police officer said.
Police said that a young man had been arrested at the blast site. Police also found a crude unexploded bomb at the roadside.
The blast ripped off the roof of the car in which the judges were traveling, and sent passers-by, including schoolchildren, running for cover.
Judges and lawyers of the Jhalakathi court gathered in the streets, demanding quick action against those who killed their colleagues.
Bangladesh has been hit this year by a series of bombings blamed on Islamist militants who have threatened judges in the past in their campaign for introduction of Sharia-based Islamic law in the mainly Muslim democracy.
Bombs exploded in three district courts outside Dhaka in October, killing two people and wounding more than a dozen.
It was the second major incident after 500 small bombs went off across the country in August, killing two people and wounding about 100. Police blamed Islamist militants for both attacks.
