New Delhi: Believe it or not, a five-year-old in Bihar has been called a ‘Gunda’. Charged with disrupting the peace during Panchayat polls, Suryakant has to report to the police station everyday.
Suryakant has more jobs at his hands than just playing with his friends. For last 7 days, he has been marking his daily attendance at the local police station. Cops of Aurangabad district in Bihar have declared the 5-year-old lad as a Goonda, a guy who is threatening peace in the area and disrupting the process of Panchayat polls. 107 IPC has been imposed on him in wake of ongoing Panchayat elections in the state and the boy is out on a temporary bail from a local court.
“A case has been filed against me that is why I am here,” said Suryakant.
“The 5-year-old boy is being asked to pay bond of Rs 20000, which is unjust,” said Sidheswar Vidyarthi, advocate.
Suryakant's family members, his friends at schools are all shell shocked at this callous approach of the Police. They first thought it might be a clerical error. But when they approached the local police station, cops confirmed that it was done deliberately. Since then, they are running pillar to post for justice.
“Its a case of child right violation. How can a 5-yr-old boy be booked in a court case?” said Anil Kumar Singh, villager.
Even the senior officials are quite casual about this serious blunder.
“Section 107 has been imposed on the relatives of the candidate contesting polls. We will inquire this case against a kid,” said Vivek Raj Singh, SP, Aurangabad.
At the age, when he should have been only worrying about playing football and completing his home work, Suryakant is shuttling between police station and courts.
