HYDERABAD: Because water provides, in a myriad wonderful ways, it is now upon us to save our lovely lakes rivers and ponds. An exhibition-cum-sale of three artists: Shashi Raghunandan, M.Vittal and Late Lala Raja Deen Dayal, to draw awareness to our precious water resources. A section by the HMDA (Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority) expressing their strategic implementation of diversions and sewage treatment plants to cleanse the lake provides hope to the common citizen. A special section by historian and collector Safiullah Khan with rare and ancient photographs of the Musi in spate and of the pristine Hussain Sagar is a treat to the Hyderabadi and lake lover. Curated by Kaali Sudheer the Monsoon Regatta was conceived to draw awareness to the deteriorating quality of our lovely waterbodies. The original idea was floated by the founder president of the Yacht Club of Hyderabad, Suheim Sheikh who has been sailing competitively in Hussain Sagar for the past 30 years and was a direct witness to the calamitous proportions to which the pollution and sewage had hit the lake during his hiatus from the sport for 12 years to build a software products company. The lake had become impossible to sail in, given the level of surface debris and the incredible thickness of the water. While sailing it felt like a chocolatey gooey mess with each boat leaving a thick wake behind it and of course the ubiquitous smell.
