BANGALORE: It’s official. Ramprasad - who had earlier contested the 2008 Assembly elections unsuccesfully - is the Congress candidate for the November 30 bypoll to Bellary Rural (ST) constituency.His name was selected from a list of four contenders by All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Sonia Gandhi, said KPCC president Dr G Parameshwar in a statement issued here on Thursday. He said that the KPCC had sent the list to the party high command on Wednesday.“The party candidate will file his nomination tomorrow, when senior party leaders will be present on the occasion,” he added.It may be recalled that the byelection to the Bellary Rural constituency was caused following the resignation of the incumbent B Sriramulu who vacated the seat after his name figured in the Lokayukta report on illegal mining. Sriramulu is contesting as an independent following his resignation from the BJP.The byelection is likely to turn into a triangular fight between Sriramulu, the BJP and Congress as the JD(S) has decided not to put up a candidate and support the former minister. The BJP is yet to announce its candidate for the byelection.
