New Delhi: World under-10 champion Sahaj Grover and International-Master-in-waiting Parimarjan Negi would be the star attractions at the Asian Youth Chess Championships to be held in the national capital from December 7 to 15.
The championships will be played in under-8, 10, 12 and 14 age groups and would be held separately for boys and girls.
This is the first time that an age-group international event is coming to New Delhi.
Earlier, Delhi Chess Association had organised the National Junior girls and a couple of National Under-11 championships besides the three Parsvnath International open chess tournaments.
Another first will be the reduction in the entry fee.
"We will be charging just $150 (Rs 6750), which is the FIDE guidelines for such an event and not $334 (Rs 15,000) that the earlier body-in-command in the federation charged from Indian players", said Bharat Singh Chauhan, treasurer of All India Chess Federation (AICF).
He expressed the hope that the reduction in entry fee would facilitate more entries.
"We expect about 300 players out of which a major part will be our own players. Overall about 20 countries are expected to participate", Chauhan said.
This will be the second international event held in the country since a power tussle hit the AICF in January this year.
Earlier this month, the Asian Individual Championship was organised in Hyderabad.
