HYDERABAD: An elderly woman was gagged, tied and robbed of gold ornaments and cash by offenders at Ramgopalpet on Wednesday. The offenders, reportedly, include a painter who was engaged by the woman herself to get her house painted. Jeeva Kiritam (60), recently returned from the Gulf and was living alone in D V colony under Ramgopalpet police limits. Her son resides in the second floor of the same apartment.According to police, the woman engaged Amjad, a painter, two months ago to paint her house. Amjad completed painting the house except for a room. On July 9, Jeeva Kiritam called Amjad again and asked him to paint the incomplete room. Amjad told the woman that he would come on July 13.On July 13 morning around 8 am, Amjad along with another person went to the flat to paint the remaining room. After working for a while, the duo suddenly attacked the woman. They tore her saree, tied her hands with it, gagged her with a plaster and locked her in the bedroom. The offenders opened the almirah and stole nearly 53 tola gold ornaments and `50,000 cash from it and fled from the house.Jeeva Kiritam, reportedly, removed the plaster in the afternoon and cried for help from the window of her bedroom. The apartments’ watchmans’ wife heard her cry and alerted the other residents of the apartment, who freed her.
