First In 133 Years, Bengaluru Records Highest Rain In Single Day In June; Yellow Alert Issued

After witnessing the driest April in 41 years, Bengaluru on Sunday recorded the highest daily rainfall in June breaking its 133-year-old record.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bengaluru on Sunday received 111.1 mm of rainfall. Notably, the previous highest was 101.6 mm of rainfall, which was recorded on June 16, 1891. The average rainfall in Bengaluru for June stands at 106.5 mm.

Additionally, the weather agency has predicted rainfall in Bengaluru for the next two days followed by light to moderate thundershowers. Meanwhile, heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms on Sunday lashed parts of the city disrupting several daily services for the general public in the city.

The coastal parts of Karnataka, including Bengaluru, witnessed rainfall following the arrival of southwest monsoon. The weather department has issued a yellow alert, forecasting cloudy skies and intermittent rain or thundershowers from June 3 to 5.

Bengaluru Broke Heat Records In April

For the first time in the last 41 years, the city known for its charming climate was forced to face an unusually hot summer. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bengaluru did not record any rainfall in April, marking the first such instance since 1983.

Facing its driest April in the last four decades, Bengaluru recorded 0 mm of rainfall in the month of April.
