BANGALORE: In a first, the National School of Drama (NSD) is all set to open a drama school in the city. The government has finally allotted land for the school. Announcing the allotment of land, Rajya Sabha member and theatre person B Jayashree said on Monday that the government informed her a week ago that three acres of land will be allotted near Kalagrama for the purpose.
"Two acres belonging to the Indira Gandhi National College (IGNC) and one acre belonging to the Government of Karnataka near Kalagrama behind Kuvempu Bhasha Kendra have been set aside for purpose. On receiving this information, I immediately informed it to Director of National School of Drama Dr Anuradha Kapoor. She expressed her happiness and said that the construction of the buildings will begin at the earliest," Jayashree said and thanked the government for its good gesture. It may be recalled here that, in the past, a number of requests had been made to the governments to set up another NSD in the south as limited seats in the only school in Delhi were not enough to cater to the needs of the contemporary theatre scene. Several theatre personalities including B Jayashree went on a fast seeking the allotment of land.
