Kolkata: Banking services in State Bank of India in West Bengal badly suffered on Saturday due to satellite link failure in Bellary, causing immense hardship to customers ahead of the 5-day puja holidays.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said she telephoned Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee about the problem being suffered by bank customers in the state ahead of the puja days and sought a remedy.
She said that the SBI authorities asked all its branches across the state to keep them open tomorrow despite being a Sunday and also a holiday due to Gandhi Jayanti to help the customers.
A SBI spokesman said that the SBI branches all over the state would function on Sunday for the convenience of the customers who suffered during the day on Saturday ahead of the festive season.
Server down due to satellite link failure caused the trouble, he said.
The Chief Minister said that state Finance minister Amit Mitra had a talk with the chief general manager of SBI who assured that the bank's all branches would function till late night on Saturday to clear dues of the customers.
