CHENNAI: The minute Jacob Alexander Hay walked into the reception area of Karunai Illam, Katrine Morrissey jumped into his arms, holding on to him for dear life. Looking at her content smile, it was difficult to imagine her as the blood-stained, disoriented, violent person that she was four days ago, when she was picked up by Udavum Karangal. “All I remember about that day was walking endlessly without any idea of where I needed to go,” recalls the Norwegian national who left home last October. As reported in Express, representatives of the NGO contacted the Norwegian embassy who attempted to find her parents – a task that proved slow as she had lost her passport and all other belongings. “Finally, she gave us three telephone numbers belonging to her parents and her boyfriend Jacob,” recounts a volunteer. While the parents weren’t very surprised at Katrine’s predicament, security guard-cum-student Jacob apparently flew out immediately, arriving here on Saturday morning.Buoyed by his presence, the girl who worked in a pet shelter in Oslo before coming to India began piecing her story together, “Over the past five months I’ve been all across the country but I’ve not yet seen all of it,” she says and adds, “It’s not all clear yet.” One thing that Jacob managed to get from her was how she sustained the deep gash, “She saw a dog in pain on the other side of a barbed wire fence and tried to get through and fell on her head,” he relates.“Her mother said that she was affected psychiatrically which was why she cut herself everytime she faced any problem. In fact she says that she asked Katrine not to leave Norway, but she was determined to travel,” revealed another worker there. It was also evident that Katrine had disturbed thoughts from Youtube videos she has posted on subjects like Empathy. For now though, Jacob is determined to get her back home after getting an emergency passport. “I’m really thankful she found these good people to take care of her,” he says with a smile. Katrine manages a weak grin.
