Mumbai: Senior Maharashtra bureaucrat Ashok Khot, wanted for contempt of court, was arrested in Mumbai airport on Thursday night after he arrived from Delhi.
The Supreme Court has given Khot, the Additional Chief Secretary of Maharashtra, a month’s imprisonment for issuing licences to sawmills to operate in restricted forests in violation of its directives.
Former forest minister Surupsinh Naik is serving a one-month prison term in the same case. Khot was evading arrest and was declared an absconder on Thursday.
A Mumbai police team tailed Khot when he go onto the flight in Delhi and arrested him at around 10.50 p.m. in Mumbai. Khot was taken to the Malabar Hill police station, which had an arrest warrant against him, and then sent to Thane jail.
