PERUMBAVOOR: As communicable diseases threaten to engulf the district, officials with the Perumbavoor Municipality and the health department are gearing up to prevent an outbreak in the region.As part of the initiative, the Health Standing Committee of the Perumbavoor Municipality will launch a cleanliness and awareness drive on Thursday. “The drive will consist of cleaning the roadsides and clearing the drains. In order to intensify the project, we will be seeking the help of the government health centres as well as various organisations including residents’ associations. We will also be conducting chlorination of all the wells in the area including the wells in the houses,” said Biju John Jacob, chairman, Health Standing Committee, Perumbavoor Municipality.Officials with the health department stated that they have almost completed the measures to ensure the safety of Perumbavoor residents. “With the help of Kudumbashree and the anganwadis, we have been able to conduct chlorination of wells and spread awareness in almost all the houses in the area. We also sought the assistance of the hotels and restaurants association of the region and have been able to ensure that only boiled water is supplied in most of the hotels in Perumbavoor,” said Vipin P S, Junior Health Inspector, Health Department, Perumbavoor.He added that the department is also keeping a close watch on all the fever cases reported in the region. “In all the suspicious cases of fever, we are collecting the patients’ body fluid samples and testing them. We have also instructed all the labs and private hospitals in the nearby areas to report to us in case any problem is found. So far, we have not come across any case of communicable diseases this season,” he added.
