A senior officer of the Haryana Police, ASI Balwan Singh, has been arrested for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 50,000 for a service that should have been free. The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) conducted the operation, leading to Singh’s arrest at the City Police Station in Sonipat district.
The allegations stem from a complaint filed by a local resident regarding a dispute involving his brother. Singh reportedly demanded Rs 50,000 in exchange for providing a copy of an agreement between the two parties. Investigations reveal that Singh had previously accepted bribes totaling Rs 3.5 lakh from the complainant.
Confirming the case, the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) devised a plan to apprehend ASI Balwan Singh. During the operation, Singh attempted to flee with the bribe money but was captured by ACB officers shortly thereafter. A case has been registered against him at the Rohtak Anti Corruption Bureau Police Station.
According to Tejpal, in-charge of the Rohtak ACB, a complaint was received indicating that the two brothers involved in the dispute had reached a settlement at the City Police Station. Despite this, Singh demanded Rs 50,000 for providing a copy of the agreement.
It has been revealed that he had previously accepted bribes totaling Rs 3.5 lakh. Singh was arrested in the act of receiving the latest bribe, and a thorough investigation is ongoing.
