THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Guest tutors sacked by the Sri Chitra Home for Poor and Destitute (SCH) have now approached the District Collector seeking an investigation into the allegations levelled against them by the SCH superintendent.The tutors, who are employed with respectable educational institutions in Thiruvananthapuram, have sought clarification on the issue before Wednesday, when the State Government is scheduled to convene a meeting to discuss issues related to the SCH.In their letter, of which City Express has a copy, the teachers have accused superintendent Elsy Abraham of wrongly blaming them in the media of misbehaving with students. An investigation should be conducted and the superintendent dismissed if the charges are found to be untrue, the teachers have urged the District Collector. They have also sought a Vigilance inquiry into the irregularities at SCH.The SCH superintendent had sacked 12 tutors recently following a controversy over the children experimenting with an Ouija Board during class hours. The teacher who was conducting the class at the time was the first to be dismissed. Later, the superintendent also submitted a detailed report to the District Collector, who is the chairman of the SCH, blaming the teachers. Giving a twist to the issue, the students had clarified in another letter that they themselves had instigated the experiment and not the teacher.On August 20, with things reaching a head, Social Welfare Minister M K Muneer conducted a surprise visit to the SCH. It was decided then to discuss the issues in detail on Wednesday.The fresh complaint by the teachers has added another twist to the issue. SCH has been the news in recent months after a study threw light on the poor living conditions there.
