PUDUCHERRY: The NCC directorate (TN, Puducherry & AN), in liaison with the Indian Navy’s regional headquarters in Chennai, organised a seven-day scuba diving and training camp for naval NCC cadets. During the training, cadets were taught how to utilise the breathing apparatus meant to keep divers underwater for a long time and other related safety procedures. Later, they underwent practical training with regard to diving and swimming at a depth of 10 to 12 feet with the help of the apparatus. Training such as this is only given to naval commandos to carry out clandestine underwater operations in enemy territory. The latter, belonging to the clearance diving unit in Chennai, spearheaded the training. Twelve cadets from the Puducherry naval NCC unit successfully completed the training. After a tough physical test and medical examination at the Puducherry GH, cadets were selected to undergo such a training. Petty officer cadet Veerapan from the Rajiv Gandhi College, Thavalakuppam, was adjudged the best trainee.
