Sewage, a haunting problem in the city
The thought of sewage water inundating the Karshaka Road seems to haunt the people of the area and train commuters...

KOCHI: Come monsoon and people would have to wade through the muck filled Karshaka Road as the authorities have not charted out any solution for the problem. The sewage water generated at the railway station is discharged on the road. The thought of sewage water in nun dating the Karshaka Road seems to haunt the people of the area and train commuters. The GCDA is engaged in constructing a canal on the sides of the Karshaka Road. But the canal is for carrying rain water, said GCDA sources.Making it clear that it will not allow the Railway to discharge the sewage water generated in the railway station into the canal built by the GCDA, the sources said that the Railway will have to find a solution for the issue by itself. They should explore the possibility of constructing a septic tank to deal with the problem, the sources  said. The sources said that the work on the drainage is almost over and waiting for the clearance to cut the road to finish the work. As soon as the permission is granted, the work on the canal will be completed.Ironically, the Railway had the other day commissioned the sixth platform and a large section of  commuters are expected to use the Karshaka Road which is flooded with sewage water during rainy season. The Railway has not done anything to replace the canal that existed there before the construction of the sixth platform, Karithala Poura Samithi Secretary Viju Choolackal said. Viju appealed to the authorities to bury their differences over the issue and help find a solution.
