KOZHIKODE: Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata, in a rare gesture, made a surprise visit to Kozhikode on Sunday. He included the city in his itinerary as it is emerging as the hottest market in Kerala and Tamil Nadu for the company’s economy model Tata Nano.Tata included the city on his nationwide tour to acknowledge the performance of the district’s sole Tata Motors dealer. The district is also considered one of the best markets for the company’s high-end model Tata Aria.He participated in a function where Tata customers and dealers were present, and took feedback from them regarding various models. He also delivered the Nano personally to 25 select customers. Marina Motors Nano division head Nimisha P said they sold more than 600 Nano models in the past year alone. Officials from the Tata Group refused to divulge any details about Tata’s visit, terming it an ‘internal matter of the company, the details of which were not available to the press’.According to media reports, Ratan Tata has been visiting Tata dealers in different parts of the country, with Kozhikode following the likes of Patna, Nagpur and Bijapur on the veteran industrialist’s itinerary.
