KOCHI: The manufactures of kids’ products are cashing in on the craze for cartoon characters this season. Parents and their wards are busy shopping for school bags, water bottles, pencil boxes and many more items with cartoon characters on them. “Raincoats, schoolbags, pencil boxes, erasers, umbrellas and sharpeners are given the name or the images of the cartoon characters that fascinate children. Tom and Jerry, Ben10, Mickey Mouse and Scooby Doo are much in demand. A lot of Chinese products have invaded the market,” says K Rasheed, a shopkeeper at Broadway. The schools will reopen within two weeks and the demand for school items is at its peak. Though young children are fond of cartoon characters, high school and college students are after branded products. The influence of various TV programmes and advertisements have an impact on the kids’ choice. “I look for quality than the cost. The shops are giving a wide range of items. I have two children and when I shop for them I am really confused what to choose. The variety on offer is mind-boggling,” says Sangeetha Jagadeesh, a housewife. But parents do not need to worry a lot, for their wards know the right choice!
