CHENNAI: As a city that is no stranger to serial blasts and the resultant suffering, Mumbai on the Internet came forward to share information and offer help for those affected by Wednesday’s blasts. Like never before, the world watched as social networking websites such as Twitter exploded with people offering their phone numbers and addresses to those stranded after serial blasts, volunteering to host them until it became possible for them to go home, while others offered to drop them home and medical assistance.“RT @coolfunnytshirt: #needhelp #mumbaiblasts RT @dhruvster: Anyone around Borivili west? Please RT,” read a tweet that had been passed on by six different persons.Apart from people using Internet-enabled phones to seek help, many used social networking platforms to offer help. “I am a doctor. If anybody needs medical help, please contact me. #MumbaiBlasts,” said @qtfan. Even blood banks got savvy in their attempt to help. “If there are any blood donation requests please let us know. We will try to help. #mumbaiblasts,” @BloodAid.Hundreds offered their homes and offices for stranded people who wanted shelter as news spread that police had requested cars to stay off the roads for a few hours and taxi unions had announced they would go off the streets at midnight.
