Stirring a fresh controversy, Union Minister Giriraj Singh wants India to enforce a two-child norm for everyone irrespective of their religion. Giriraj said that if India did not change its population policy then “Hindu daughters will not be safe and might have to sit at home, like in Pakistan".
"The Hindu population is declining. Very soon, our country will also be like Pakistan, where girls will not go to schools, where they will be made to sit at home because the security of our daughters will be put at stake," Giriraj said while speaking at a cultural yatra in Bagaha, West Champaran on Wednesday.
"All I want is, there should be a law which does not allow more than 2 children for any family, be it Hindus, or Muslims, Sikhs or Christians. Until & unless there is a restriction on this, our country cannot be developed," he said. He also stressed on voting rights should be revoked for people who fail to fall in line once such a law is enforced.
This is not the first time the BJP MP from Nawada in Bihar had made a controversial statement.
In the run-up to the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Giriraj had said that those criticising Narendra Modi should be “sent to Pakistan". In April 2015, he was caught on camera saying that had Rajiv Gandhi married a “Nigerian" woman instead of the “fair-skinned" Sonia Gandhi, the Congress would not have accepted her as its leader.
