Uttarakhand floods: People still look for the missing
The relatives say they are not interested in the compensation money, but want to find their family members.

Dehradun: More than one month has passed since flash floods and massive landslides in Uttarakhand led to the death of several people and many more went missing. The official figure of missing people stands at 5,748.

The family members of those missing are still hopeful that their loved ones would return soon and they are leaving no stones unturned in trying to trace them.

While the Uttarakhand government has started to pay the compensation amount to the relatives of those still missing, but the relatives say they are not interested in money but want to find their family members.

Several people from all over India are camping in Dehradun and scouting the far flung villages in Uttarakhand in search of their missing relatives. They have also pasted the phots and details about their missing relatives at several places in Dehradun and other cities of Uttarakhand.

The distraught relatives say that they only want to get some news of their missing family members and the money given by the state government cannot be a substitute.

"I am ready to pay any one who can give me any information about my relatives. I have headr that some people are still trapped in Gaurikund but the government has stopped rescue work," claimed Sachin, who has come from Uttar Pradesh in search of his missing family members.

Another Uttar Pradesh resident Sunil Kumar Dube said that he had received a phone from Rudraprayag that his father and mother had been rescued. He claimed to have spoken to them on June 30 and added that they had boarded a bus but since then there has been no news of them. "I don't want the compensation. I am ready to pay Rs 2-3 lakh to any one who can bring back my parents," he said.

Out of the 5,748 still missing, 4,804 are from other states while 944 belong to Uttarakhand.

Due to legal formalities the missing persons cannot be declared dead, but the state government has said that the amount is not compensation and the search to trace the missing will continue.
