HYDERABAD: The tourism department in Hyderabad in an innovative drive has been organising heritage walks around the city to promote the cultural richness. An idea that has been around for eight years, the heritage walks have become a regular feature every Sunday morning. This week, the walk began from Charminar till Badshahi Ashurkhana. The heritage walk is part of a programme that actually has different walks which follow different routes. All of these walks however, begin from Charminar. Speaking to the tour guide, Raize Kubra, she said, "Charminar is a strong cultural spot. But besides that its has more space and parking is less of a problem. Hence we start all our walks from there." Kubra is a full time tour guide who manages her free lance business while also collaborating with the tourism department. The programme at the moment follows two walks: the first walk which starts from Charminar to Chowmahalla Palace and the second till Badshahi Ashurkhana. Both of these are around two and a half kilometers in distance. These walks which are fully guided tours are also supervised by the joint director of the department, Ramanarasaiah. It is open to all and require a registration of `50, inclusive of breakfast. On an average about fifteen to twenty people turn up though they have had batches that stretch to about thirty during on-season.
