With 2997 active Covid cases and counting the urgency of understanding JN.1 variant’s impact on India’s public health landscape cannot be overstated. This new strain of covid 19, a descendant of the Pirola strain shares similarities with previous omicron strains in terms of high transmissibility and mild symptoms. Research is still ongoing but in most cases the symptoms subside in 4-5 days.

So, what can we do to protect ourselves from this infection? As the Holidays are approaching people are starting to gather and as people meet, they spend more time indoors. Especially if there is poor ventilation these pathogens that spread efficiently the between people through air take advantage and the cases of covid rise.

To prevent the spread of this infection it is very important to adhere to all necessary precautions such as frequent handwashing, vaccination, wearing masks, avoiding large gatherings and isolating oneself if one is experiencing any of the above symptoms.

If you’re tested positive for the Covid virus it is important to consult with your physician and take timely medical treatment.

The elderly and vulnerable need to take extra precautions as they maybe at a higher risk for severe illness. Staying informed, seeking medical help and timely testing and medical treatment can help battle this infection.
