Besides Mohanlal, Sonalee Kulkarni, Grace Antony, Hareesh Peradi, and others also acted in this film. Sonalee primarily acts in the Marathi films and has made her debut in Malayalam cinema with Malaikottai Vaaliban. Sonalee portrayal of Rangapattinam Rangarani has impressed the viewers to a great extent.

There were rumours that the makers had abandoned the idea of directing a sequel to Malaikottai Vaaliban on receiving lukewarm reviews. Now, the director Pellissery has dismissed these rumours in an interview with an online portal. The director assured that part 2 will have more developed characters, and enhanced fantasy elements and be produced on an even grander scale. As of now, Malaikottai Vaaliban has done good business at the box office and raked in more than Rs 12 crore in a week.

Pellissery also expressed his displeasure at people discouraging others from watching Malaikottai Vaaliban. He talked about this in an interview with the Galatta Plus. He said,” “The comments that came out in the first two days sounded like, ‘I did not like it, so nobody in this country should watch it’ — that’s the attitude some had.” Director Lijo also revealed that they have included several references from different art forms worldwide. These include Amar Chitra Katha, Panchathantra stories, and other comic books.
