The latest poster for the upcoming Malayalam film Footage has been unveiled. Scheduled for release on August 2, the film features Manju Warrier in a pivotal role. Sharing the poster on her social media, Manju Warrier captioned it, “Lost Tapes. Untold Truths. FOOTAGE in theaters this August 2nd!”The poster showcases lead actors Vishak Nair and Gayathri Ashok trekking through a jungle, with Manju Warrier’s face partially visible in the background. Directed by editor Saiju Sreedharan, Footage is touted as Malayalam cinema’s first Found Footage film. This genre involves presenting the story as if it were footage recorded by characters within the narrative, later discovered and presented to the audience. The found footage genre dates back to the 1980s with the film Cannibal Holocaust being the first one of its kind. It returned to the mainstream and was made popular with the horror film The Blair Witch Project and the Paranormal Activity Series.
Saiju co-wrote the script with Shabna Mohammed and also edited the movie. Saiju is renowned for his work in films like Kumbalangi Nights, Android Kunjappan Ver 5.25, and Anjaam Pathiraa. Shinoz managed the cinematography for Footage. Bineesh Chandran and Saiju Sreedharan are producing the film, with Rahul Rajeev and Suraj Menon as co-producers. Movie Bucket is handling the distribution. The first-look poster was unveiled in February, featuring Vishakh Nair and Gayathri Ashok in an intimate scene.
Meanwhile, Malayalam actress Manju Warrier, last seen in Vellari Pattanam, has several upcoming projects across multiple languages. She will next appear in Rajinikanth and TJ Gnanavel’s cop action drama Vettaiyan and in Vetrimaran’s sequel Viduthalai Part 2. Additionally, she is set to make her Hindi acting debut in Amriki Pandit, starring alongside Madhavan. She will also be featured in L2: Empuraan with Mohanlal and in the Arya-starrer Tamil film, Mr X.
