Prem Nath Malhotra is famously known as Prem Nath. He is a legendary Indian actor and director who gained immense fame and recognition for his contributions to the Hindi film industry. He made his debut with the movie Ajit in the year 1948 and later appeared in more than 100 movies over his illustrative career. However, he was mainly recognised for portraying the roles of villains in movies. Such were his contributions that no film can be imagined without him.

Prem Nath Malhotra not only impressed the audience with his handsome looks but also with his impeccable acting skills. But did you know that he had a special relationship with Raj Kapoor but had to leave everything and go to Mount Kailash?

Prem Nath was a soldier, however, his destiny lay elsewhere. His height, physique, style and on-screen charisma catapulted him to stardom. The actor was born in Peshawar, but later after partition, the family settled in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. His father served in the police and wanted Prem Nath to join the Indian Army. However, he quit that and came to Mumbai and joined the Prithvi Theatre. He performed in various plays. Interestingly, his sister Krishna tied the knot to Raj Kapoor, making him the famous actor-director’s brother-in-law.

Premnath’s debut movie Ajit was not a success at the box office. However, Aag and Barsaat did well and he earned appreciation for his acting chops. He worked with many hit actresses like Madhubala, Nikar Sultan, Suraiya and Bina Rai. His fame grew immensely and reportedly, he started to earn more than Raj Kapoor. He began to charge Rs 1.25 lakh for a movie, while Raj Kapoor was being given Rs 75,000. Dev Anand on the other hand, earned Rs 35,000 and Dilip Kumar got Rs 50,000, as per reports.

It was in 1953, he was shooting for the movie Aurat, when he fell in love with his co-star Bina Rai and soon the two tied the nuptial knot. Together, the couple established the PN Films production house. However, after multiple flops, he decided to withdraw himself from production and focus on acting. At one point in time, his movies began to fail at the box office. This led him to go away to Mount Kailash to spend some time in peace.
