Monsoon Do’s And Don’ts: Check Out These Expert-Recommended Tips For Better Health

The rainy season or monsoon in India brings with it, a rush of fresh air–but is also notoriously popular for the spread of water-borne diseases, common viruses like the flu; and skin allergies for people sensitive to pollen and extra humidity in the air.

However, that does not mean that one cannot step out and have fun during the monsoons. Macrobiotic specialist Dr. Shonali Sabherwal took to Instagram to list a few such do’s and don’ts that one must follow during the rainy season to keep healthy.

Drink boiled/filtered water- Boiled or

Wash vegetables and greens well- The expert suggested washing your daily products such as fruits and vegetables thoroughly to get rid of any traces of toxins. “I soak them in ACV for some time", she added.

Always drink warm beverages- The expert recommended warm beverages to keep your immune system protected. “Nothing cold", Dr. Shonali added.

Eat soft and mushy foods- “Make sure meals are soupy andkitchari-likeconsistency and always warm.", the expert suggested.

Supplement with Vitamin C- Even if you are having fresh fruits and vegetables, the expert suggested adding vitamin C and probiotics through foods.

Avoid eating outside- Monsoons are notoriously well-known for their ability to spread diseases. Don’t eat from roadside places or even take-away to avoid contamination. Instead, eat raw fruits and vegetables that are packed with vitamins.

Stay away from waterbodies- Disease-spreading mosquitoes are frequently found and breed themselves on still water. Diseases like malaria and dengue can easily spread if you inhabit a place with stagnant water.

Remain dry at all times- Even if you get caught in a sudden downpour, try to get yourself dried off soon. Dr. Shonali warned that staying wet for extended periods of time may make you prone to common colds like the flu.
