After cutting ties with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), senior All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leader KP Munusamy has dared the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to field Union Ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Dr S Jaishankar from any constituency in Tamil Nadu for upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
AIADMK recently severed ties with BJP-led NDA in Tamil Nadu following differences of opinion with the state BJP President K.Annamalai.
Recently speaking at a public function on the occasion of former Chief Minister Jayalalitha’s birth anniversary in Krishnagiri, Munusamy said, “Two Tamils are Union Ministers…One is External Affairs Minister Jaishankar and another is Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman… Let both of them contest (Lok Sabha polls) from any constituency in Tamil Nadu.”
“If Bharatiya Janata Party has heart, if it has courage, if it has confidence that people of Tamil Nadu will vote, put Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and External Affairs Minister Jaishankar in any constituency of Tamil Nadu.. Then you will know how the people of Tamil Nadu will learn a lesson,” the AIADMK leader said.
This comes days after Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said that there are chances that BJP might field External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman from the constituencies in Karnataka in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
Currently, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is a member of Rajya Sabha from the state of Gujarat whereas Nirmala Sitharaman represents Karnataka in the Upper House.
The AIADMK leader asked why did the BJP made Union Minister of State L Murugan a Rajya Sabha MP. “You should have made him stand in the (Lok Sabha) election. Why didn’t you make him stand? You see that you cannot win if you stand. Then why are you deceiving the people?” he asked.
It may be recalled that in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, AIADMK in alliance with NDA could garner only one seat — Theni which AIADMK leader P. Ravindhranath won defeating senior Congress leader and former Union Minister, EVKS Elangovan.
After breaking up the alliance with the BJP, the AIADMK is currently expecting secular votes in its kitty and is try again to align itself with the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) at any cost as it is the political arm of the powerful Vanniyar community which can have a a major say in the Western region of Tamil Nadu.
