New Delhi/Bangalore: The political crisis in Karnataka is taking fresh twists and turns every passing hour.
Adding a new element to what looks like endgame in the state, JD(S) patriarch and former prime minister H D Deve Gowda said on Thursday night that his son had realised the mistake of aligning with BJP.
“It is not a question of my satisfaction but a question of satisfying the people of Karnataka. My son has realised his mistake of making a government with BJP because of the suffering he's had to go through,” Gowda told CNN-IBN.
In a strongly worded statement expressing support for his son, Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, Gowda also put a question mark on power transfer saying "till the situation becomes clear there is no no point in holding talks (on the issue) with BJP's national leaders."
The statement comes on a day after hectic politicking ensued in New Delhi with Gowda - miffed with ally BJP - trying to forge an alliance with Congress and Karnataka Chief Minister and Gowda’s son H D Kumaraswamy announcing he would step down from the post on October 3.
The former PM also went to Delhi on Wednesday to discuss with the BJP leadership the transfer of power in Karnataka scheduled for October 3 as per the 20-month-rule coalition agreement.
But he returned in a huff when he found that a BJP MP had sent a letter to the Election Commission, accusing chief minister H D Kumaraswamy of misusing power and attempting murder.
“In 60 years of Independence, have you seen any leader facing murder charges by his own Cabinet colleague? Can't BJP leaders realise the magnitude of this scenario? All these issues are in the hands of the BJP naional leaders and it’s for them to find a solution to clear a congenial atmosphere,” he said.
Earlier in the evening, Kumaraswamy announced his decision to step down saying it was in keeping with the 20-month-rule coalition agreement JD(S) had with BJP.
However, sending out a clear signal that the father-son power duo were up to a larger game plan, Kumaraswamy remained vague about revealing the power transfer mechanism. “People will have to wait till October 3 to see what happens,” he said.
Meanwhile, the BJP in Delhi expressed confidence that the party would get power as scheduled after sorting out some "irritants" and chose to ignore Gowda's salvos.
Kumaraswamy, who is peeved at by the barrage of attacks, and the criminal case filed against him by Sriramulu, against him by Bellary unit BJP leaders, had earlier told the MLAs who called on him today that he was firm on putting in his papers.
