New Delhi: The Congress sympathiser, entrepreneur and industrialist Tehseen Poonawalla has decided to protest against Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan's recent statements on the use of condoms. He has tweeted the Health Minister's 'office' address and has asked the people who condemn his statement to register their protest by sending him a packet of Condoms.
"Dr Harshvardhan's statement will stigmatise and stereotype every person affected with HIV as a product of "Immorality". For a country of over 1.2 billion people with an average age of 28 there is nothing "immoral" in having sex, what is "immoral" is not teaching people about sex and not encouraging the use of measures that prevent both unwanted birth and disease. If only the Health Minister understood that this country is sitting on an HIV bomb that's ticking. I take full responsibility for any legal action that the minster may take - when people send him Condom packets," Poonawalla said.
Harsh Vardhan has been facing the ire of people for his comments that the focus on condoms in AIDS awareness campaigns sent a "wrong message that you can have any kind of illicit sexual relationship, but as long as you're using a condom, it's fine."
However, he later clarified saying that he had only said that condoms promise safe sex, but the safest sex is through faithfulness to one's partner."
In 2009, some young people had expressed their protest against the Mangalore pub attack by sending pink cheddis to Sri Rama Sene founder Pramod Muthalik.
