Animals being trained to follow commands is a common practice but will always remain an astounding sight. Dogs in police, cats mouse hunting or even pigeons carrying messages, are numerous examples, indicating an animal’s intellect. Just how, a theme park in France, trained crows to pick up litter in exchange for food.

According to the Euronews website, an experiment was conducted in 2018, which aimed to train crows in cleaning. The officials of the Puy du Fou theme park in the western Vendee region, France, taught the crows to collect cigarette butts, from around the park, along with some other small trash items lying on the ground.

The video shared by the website shows how well-trained the crows were. It captured the crows tiptoeing around the park with a burnt cigarette in their beaks. The bird identified it from the little rocks on the ground, took it in its beak and flew to the owner carrying a small box-like container to dispose of the trash. With each trash deposit, the birds get to enjoy a little treat, through that same box. Then, they return to their duty, looking for more trash.

Nicolas de Villiers, an official of the park told the media that “nature itself can teach us to take care of the environment”. According to him, the visitors are usually careful with keeping the area clean. Adding he revealed that Rooks, a member of the crow family was believed to be “particularly intelligent”. He said that they “like to communicate with humans and establish a relationship through play” if the circumstance calls for it.

The popular Instagram handle @Pubity posted the report on its page, where the netizens shared their reactions. A first user simply declared, “Can somebody train humans to clean their mess.” A second commented, “If they wanted to, crows could take over the world.” A third wrote, “Now humans are using other species to clean their mess.” And another wittily asked, “Can they be trained to spot cash?”

What's your reaction?
