CHENNAI: Bombay Jayashri and Shubha Mudgal are all set to engage the city audience in a musical dialogue for a cause. The jugalbandi will be held on July 9 at the Sri Mutha Venkatasubba Rao Concert Hall in Lady Andal School, Harrington Road.The purpose of the musical programme is to aid the Sankalp Trust, which has been doing commendable work in the field of learning disability, dyslexia and autism for more than a decade. At a press meet held recently, Bombay Jayashri said, “Every time I see children with such learning disabilities, I always wondered as an artist, why I am not able to contribute anything to make their lives better? I am very fortunate that through our music we are able to do something for their betterment.”Sankalp had included music therapy as a teaching method for students with learning disabilities. Sulata Ajit, Director Special Education, Sankalp, said, “Through music therapy we help the children overcome severe obstacles like insecurity. This helps them in forming relationships with other children and their environment. We are seeing a huge success through music therapy.” Talking about challenges, Lakshmi Krishnakumar, one of the founder directors of Sankalp, said that inclusion of these children in mainstream schools is their biggest challenge.
