CUTTACK: The State Vigilance has been strengthened by a new hi-tech document examination laboratory which was inaugurated here on Wednesday. The lab has highly sophisticated equipment procured at a cost of ` 58.08 lakh from the UK and Germany. These equipments are the first of their kind in the State. Some of them, including the video spectral comparators, stereoscopic microscope with camera attachment and software for image processing will come in handy to examine handwriting, signatures, ink, paper, currency notes as well as security documents in case of disputes and offer opinion. Vigilance Director Anup Kumar Patnaik who inaugurated the new lab said the facility would be immensely helpful to the investigating officers in cases of misappropriation and forgery which can be solved within a short period. The lab has been named after former Director of Vigilance Srikanta Ghosh. Senior IPS officers like Binay Behera, Surendra Panwar, Santosh Upadhyah and Amrit Mohan Prasad were present during the inauguration.
