New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has come out strongly against the Delhi Police over the death of the Northeastern student Nido Taniam in the national capital.
The court questioned why such attacks have continued despite special cells having been set up in 2012. The court has also asked the police to publicise these special cells.
It has also pulled up the police and the Delhi government after the Central Forensic Laboratory failed to provide the viscera report of Nido Tania on Friday. Meanwhile, the police have said that the probe will be over after the full post mortem report is available.
In the ongoing investigation in the death of Nido Taniam, the state police on Thursday informed the court that there were two rounds of fight between Nido, the shopkeeper and his friends.
According to reports, the shopkeepers made fun of Nido's hair style when he along with his friends had approached the former for an address. Following the remarks from the shopkeeper, Nido got annoyed and broke the glass pane of the shop which resulted into an altercation with the shopkeepers.
Three associates of the shopkeepers are said to have beaten Nido and also passed derogatory casteist and racist remarks. After Nido paid damage worth Rs 7,000, the shopkeepers are said to have again attacked him at his friend's house.
The police are saying that the accused have been arrested under the SC/ST Act but not under the charges of murder. It is being said that the charges of murder will be decided after the post mortem report is submitted.
According to police, Nido belonged to scheduled tribe and was humiliated in public view.
