As the heat wave across the country is sweeping through, the southern part of Tamil Nadu, particularly, the Tirunelveli area is experiencing a maximum surge in temperature. While the summer heat is sweeping across Tamil Nadu, Tirunelveli district is reporting an average temperature of more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

The district administration is giving various suggestions to the public to protect themselves from the sun. The public has been advised to not remain outdoors during the peak heat hours of the day unless it is mandatory. The heat is not just affecting humans but animals and birds as well, as witnessed in an incident that took place near the Tirunelveli District Collector’s office.

A parrot suffered a heat stroke and fell while flying near the District Collector’s office. A crowd amassed in the area to watch the fallen bird. Initially thought to be dead, the crowd then noticed the bird breathing. On seeing it, constable Balasubramanian, who was on security duty there, picked it up and along with his fellow constables, revived the parrot. Balasubramanian poured water on the unconscious parrot from the nearby water tank and once it came to its senses, made it drink water.

The parrot was weak so it was also given some food to eat before it rejuvenated itself and flew off, totally healthy. The public was moved to see this action of the policeman. Many people are praising this kind gesture of Balasubramanian.

Due to the intense heat wave, Tirunelveli Corporation took the initiative last month to establish ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution) distribution centres at various locations. This measure aimed to protect the community, particularly children and senior citizens, from potential heat-related illnesses. Commissioner Thakare Shubham Dnyandeorao stated that the Corporation had decided in response to the scorching temperatures affecting the area.
