BANGALORE: Aiming to improve the academic and research ties between India and France, the Center National De La Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) or National Centre of Scientific Study of France will set up joint ventures in the areas of mathematics, immunology and informatics.Director General for Science (CNRS), Joel Bertrand shared that they were going to open an International Joint Unit in Mathematics (IJUM). The joint unit would be between the CNRS and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc Bangalore). The head office will be in New Delhi and be formally inaugurated this Thursday, he informed. “There are only 30 such units in the world and the only one in India”, he shared and added that they would both work in the same direction and publish the same papers as well. They would also be signing an Memorandum of Understanding for a new lab in immunology.Announcing that the establishment would be functional by the end of the year, he said that they would also sign an International Associated Laboratory (LIA) in Chennai with institutions there. CNRS shared that they would also facilitate movement by researchers between the two countries and have placed an annual budget of 15-20,000 Euros for the same.
