Maharashtra government to transfer Sheena murder case to CBI, rules out 'sabotage'
The decision comes after confusion over who is heading the probe after the transfer of Rakesh Maria as Mumbai Police Commissioner.

Almost a month since Indrani Mukherjea's arrest, the Maharashtra government has decided to transfer the Sheena Bora murder case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), citing the need for a fair probe and the fact that there are aspects to the case which may require probing of financial links.

The decision comes after confusion over who is heading the probe after the transfer of Rakesh Maria as Mumbai Police Commissioner. According to the government, Maria's transfer had nothing to do with the case.

Maria's alleged proximity to Mukerjeas had also been questioned. It had also emerged that current commissioner Ahmed Javed also knew the Mukerjeas socially. However, the government has defended him saying there is no personal link.

Speaking to CNN-IBN, Maharashtra Home Secretary KP Bakshi denied any sabotage in connection with the case, even as he said that it was in the interest of the government if the case was given to the central agency.

Bakshi further said that Mumbai Police Commission Ahmed Javed was also of the opinion to hand over the probe to the CBI.
