Rape victim succumbs to burns

BELGAUM: The 17-year-old girl, who was battling for her life after reportedly being raped by her paternal uncle and allegedly burnt by her father at Amtur village in Bailhongal taluk, succumbed to her injuries at the district hospital in Belgaum on Sunday evening.According to police sources, Irangouda Patil, uncle of the victim-Geeta Patil had allegedly raped her and when she revealed the matter to her mother, he reportedly threatened them. But the victim’s mother disclosed the same to her husband Chandragouda Patil. But Irangouda Patil had already taken Chandragouda Patil into confidence. ‘To save the reputation of his family’, the alcoholic father allegedly poured kerosene on Geeta and set her ablaze.According to sources, the victim had suffered 75 percent burns.
