BANGALORE: Good news for visually challenged book lovers. Now they can pick and read Kannada poems, novels, plays and other literary pieces of their favourite authors in Braille.Kannada Book Authority (KBA) has published 15 Kannada books in Braille, penned by wellknown writers like Kuvempu, Da Ra Bendre, Poornachandra Tejaswi, Dr K Shivaram Karanth, U R Ananth Murthy and Girish Karnad.Books like DVG's Mankuthimmana Kagga, Da Ra Bendre's Nada Leele and Sakhi Geetha, Dr K Shivarama Karanth's novel Chomana Dudi, U R Ananth Murthy's Sooryana Kudure Mattu Itara Kathegalu, Kuvempu's Pakshi Kaashi and Malenada Chitragalu, Poornachandra Tejaswi's Parisarada Kathe and Aa Na Kru's Sandhya Raaga, Girish Karnad's Tughlaq, Chennaveera Kanavi's Jeeva Dhwani, T P Kailasam's Tollu Gatti, M S Lakshmi Narayana Bhatta's Kallu Sakkare Kolliro and many more have been published in Braille.The Authority has set a target to publish 50 books from different authors, of which 15 are already done. All the books are published at Government Braille Press in Mysore.Speaking to Express, KBA Chairman Dr Siddalingiah said that they have published 50 copies of each book. "We will give each copy to Central Library from all the 30 districts. We are also giving 14 such copies to the blind schools including government and private," he added.According to the Dr Siddalingaiah, this effort is said to be first of its kind. "Publishers used to publish text books and other academic books in Braille. The KBA will be the first authority to publish literary books," he added.He further said all these books will be released soon. The programme is scheduled to be held in June, it is said. "We are inviting CM for it and waiting for confirmation of the date," he said.
