Angry prisoners assault cop

VELLORE: Ten prisoners who were brought to the Tirupattur Court for trial went on a rampage after the cops protecting them stopped their families from giving them packets of ‘home cooked food’. The men were brought to the Tirupattur Court on Tuesday .The magistrate had left on an urgent errand and hence the prisoners were asked to wait. Their families who had arrived to witness their hearings, used the opportunity to pass them packets of  home-cooked food. When the cops on protection detail grabbed the packets and warned the relatives away, the men were incensed with anger.They managed to break the windows of their van and assaulted one of the policemen. The men were subdued soon enough.  As a result of their outburst, they were additionally charged with assault and battery.
