CHENNAI: Assurance or testing is a recession-proof career option, said Siva Ganesan, VP, Global Head, Assurance Service Unit, TCS on Wednesday. He was speaking at the TCS Workshop on ‘Assurance as a career option’ at the SRM University auditorium in Kattankulathur. The workshop is the first-of-its-kind to be launched by TCS in any campus in the country. What’s more, they plan to take it to other campuses.“Quality plays a very vital role in establishing and retaining a brand. To win a customer takes time, but one can lose one in no time. Most students might find coding, development as more glamourous lines of choice. Talking from my personal experience, I can say testing or assurance is a rewarding experience. It is fundamentally based on the time-honoured principle of quality delivery to customers. It is a recession-proof career option. Unlike other softwares which become redundant in no time. Testing is continuous, and quality is forever,” said Siva Ganesan at the day-long workshop organised by the Valliammai Engineering college, a member of the SRM Group of Institutions.Talking about the scale of growth of the testing industry, he added, “Testing or Assurance industry is growing annually at a rate of 25 to 35 per cent. Going by industry statistics, by 2015, the Assurance global market will be worth about 40 billion USD.”Dr TR Pachamuthu, Founder & Chancellor, SRM University, presided over the function. K Ganesan, VP — Human Resources, Global Head for Talent Acquisition, Intergration and Academic Interface Programme, TCS, encouraged the students to maximise the benefits of the workshop by posing relevant questions to experts. The workshop that followed will have certain quizzes to make it as interactive as possible.
